On 9 February 2018, Harrij Schmeitz gave a presentation at the Logistics Hub at Fruit Logistica Berlin. His presentation revolved around the central question: How does the digital customer centric supply chain impact Fresh logistics?
In front of a large and enthousiastic audience, Mr. Schmeitz argued that the retail arena is changing. Online developments change the battleground for consumers. Brick and morter retailers are going into online and online retailers into brick and morter. Nevertheless, disruptive (information)technology is changing even more. It brings a new way of thinking of (last mile) logistics into our industry and those who fail to respond may lose business. Schmeitz provided an overview on disruptive digital developments in logistics that are changing the game as well as his view on the impact that they (could) have on (g)local fresh produce logistics.
